How far we've come in such a few short decades. Mobile phones are smaller, smarter and quicker than ever. For some people, they essentially use their mobile phone for everything.

But let's not forget the humble beginnings, be it a brick-sized mobile phone or a pager. If you have forgotten, though, these 5 ads may take you back to those days.

1. Ericsson

Before it was Sony-Ericcson it was simply Ericsson, and men were getting confused by women who mischievously covered their mobile phones in their hair.

2. Radio Shack

This American company proudly advertised a portable phone. In reality, it was portable in the same way that a suitcase is portable...

3. Nokia

Clearly Nokia wanted to get in with the questionable yuppie crowd with this work of art.

4. Motorola Flip

Look at all the ways Motorola tries to show you how useful this phone is. This is back in the days when flip phones amazed everyone.

5. BT Pagers

It may not be a mobile phone, but this ad for a pager is undeniably lovable. It's one of those ads that falls into the category "So bad it's good".
